SummerGlen has just introduced new green building standards for our eco-friendly community that are specially designed to be gentle on the environment and easy on your wallet.

All SummerGlen homes now meet or exceed the Green Home Building Standards of the National Association of Homebuilders. That means that we build them to minimize the impact of construction on the earth and design them so that you can live comfortably with minimal impact on our planet's resources. At SummerGlen, we believe you can “live green” without paying a premium for the privilege of living in an eco-friendly community. That's why we've incorporated all of these green building standards and environmentally-friendly features to be included in the standard price of every home we sell.

Affordable, Livable Green Building Standards

Here are just some of the ways we're helping you help the environment through the way you live at SummerGlen - a unique eco-friendly community for adults 55 and up.

Water Conservation

• We certify and use a minimum of 80 percent Waterwise® Florida landscaping to minimize use of water for irrigation.

• All landscape beds feature microclimate landscape irrigation--a drip system that minimizes water loss through evaporation.

• Turf and shrub areas are irrigated on different zones so that exactly the right amount of water can be delivered to each.

• We use only low-flow faucets and showerheads in our eco-friendly community homes.

• Golf course and all common areas use recycled water for irrigation.

Energy Conservation

• One-lever shutoff used for the washer and dryer.

• All slab penetrations are sealed before finishing as part of our green building standards.

• A/C ducts are protected during construction to prevent energy-wasting accumulation of construction dust inside system.

• Laundry rooms in air conditioned areas have make-up air supplies to minimize heating of cooled air.

• HVAC systems are individually computer designed for each home.

• Compact fluorescent bulbs are standard throughout your eco-friendly community home.

Recycling & Waste Reduction

• Non-cypress mulch used in all beds. (Helps eliminate destruction of environmentally important cypress forests. Pine bark is a renewable resource.)

• Our green building standards and initiatives ensure that our engineered roof designs help minimize lumber usage.

• Most windows and doors are produced locally to help cut down fuel consumption and pollution.

• Steel studs minimize cutting of trees.

• Recycled aluminum soffits help cut down on petroleum usage and environmental waste.

• Standard carpet line is crafted from renewable resource materials that minimize use of petroleum & pollution.

• Roof vents include baffles to minimize rain intrusion in severe weather.

• Any existing trees are protected by our green building initiatives to help insure their survival.

• A/C systems have easily accessible filters and use a MERV 10 filter with a high particulate removal rate.

• Garage door bracing is fortified for safety.

• Homeowner manuals include training and maintenance guidelines to help you keep your eco-friendly community home in optimum condition.

• Non-HFCF refrigerants used in all A/C systems to help protect our atmosphere.

• Combination smoke/carbon monoxide detectors standard in every home.
